Regina Anzenberger
Die Verwandlung (The Metamorphosis) is an ongoing series about vines. For many years, Regina Anzenberger has explored the vine through photography, drawing and painting.
In her work, she often focus on the “heads” of old grapevines, whose gnarled forms evoke faces, animals, and mythical beings.
The series consists of two bodies of work: Native Grounds, in which she works with instant photo- graphs that are further drawn and painted over, and Characters, where these organic structures are reimagined as distinct personalities through subtle overpainting and carefully placed acrylic accents. The figures symbolise the diverse effects of wine on human beings—from joy, sociability, and ecstasy to excess, loss of control, and ambivalence.
